With her works Berlin-based Anna Nowicka focuses on the choreography of the imaginary and the relationship between dreaming and dancing bodies. Just like in dreams, her dance pieces are woven together with the help of displacement, substitution, condensation, and metaphor. In “Eye Sea” – her first HAU co-production – she works with Mor Demer and Katarzyna Wolinska to tell of her dreams against the backdrop of a menacing catastrophe. The dancers dive into their dreams, explore their texture, embody image and characters, thus giving rise to a personal narration. “Eye Sea” links the choreographic with current social problems such as exploitation and the destruction of the environment. The dreams depict deeper, interior movements, which respond directly to the needs of the world. From this they draw enormous strength to alter realities.
